NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Monday night marked the annual spring high tide, which is the highest tide of the year.

People at Bradley Creek Marina waded through calf-deep water to get to their boats as the bulkhead flooded.

The high tide typically happens once a year, but boaters and onlookers told WECT they couldn't remember ever seeing the tide quite so high.

In downtown Wilmington, the Cape Fear River nearly overflowed onto Water Street around 10:15 PM, when the tide reached its highest point.

The water level should not be getting any higher, but residents along the coast can expect tides to rise more than usual for the next several days.
