COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - It's been one week since storms ripped through parts of Bladen and Columbus counties, leaving behind many damaged homes.

One Columbus County family has only half a home left with no insurance to fix the damage.

Monday, Stacy Williams ducked down with a flashlight to maneuver around what's left of her mobile home. A tree fell on top of it during the storm, crushing parts of her roof and bedroom.

Without insurance or a permanent place to stay, Stacy and her family are spending their days at their damaged home, and their nights at a friend's house.

"I feel like a squatter," said Danny Williams.  "Because, you pack up in the night and go live somewhere, and then you come back in the morning and try to keep grabbing stuff out of the rubble."

The experience has been tough on all of the family members, but they say they'll continue to deal with their current situation until they can fix their home or find a new one.

The family said they tried to contact local officials and even called the White House, but officials told them there is nothing they can do because a state of emergency was not declared.

If you would like to help the Williams you can make a donation at any BB&T bank by making a deposit to the Stacy and Daniel Williams Disaster Relief Funds.
