WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cape Fear Coalition, also known as CFC3 is a new organization focused on giving local residents a way to voice their concerns to lawmakers in Raleigh. Their current mission is to voice their concerns about coastal insurance hikes.
Homeowners along the coast are beginning to receive insurance bills that reflect a double-digit increase when it comes to homeowners insurance. Non-coastal residents are expecting a decrease in their premiums.
WECT spoke to one homeowner who has seen an increase in his wind and hail insurance. Last year Gary Gilbert payed $865 for wind and hail insurance. This year his bill is more than $1,000.
"Something has to be done," said Kathleen Riely an organizer of CFC3. "We can't sit here in frustration. We need a forum to be a strong voice and a coalition to advocate for us up there."
Reily said it will consist of an elected official from every county around Southeastern North Carolina. She said the coalition is planning to have its first meeting in August.
