KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - A tragic accident earlier this month can still be felt in the Kure Beach community.

46-year-old Teresa Falbo of Ohio died after a rip current pulled her from the shore.

As the family grieves over their loss, they have also wanted to thank many people in the community.

Teresa's husband, Don, wrote a letter to the Island Gazette Newspaper, where he explains how the town, and one lifeguard in particular, helped him through the hardest moments of his life.

"I heard how hard you worked, and I know how hard you worked to get us out of the water," wrote Don. "We couldn't save Teresa but they did save my life, and I'm here now to raise my family but if it wasn't for their help, neither one of us would be here, we would both be gone."

Kure Beach Mayor Pro Tem Jim Dugan read the letter and said although this is a tragedy, he is proud of how the Kure Beach community responded to the Falbo family.
