WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue has received an advanced certification through the United States Lifeguard Association, so they can provide a higher degree of medical attention to the people they rescue.

They're one of 44 agencies in the country to earn the honor.

"We're all pretty excited about it," said Sam Proffitt a Wrightsville Beach Lifeguard. "We worked very hard, I know Dave Baker worked hard to bring ocean rescue up to that standard. Everyone's very excited about it."

The certification is good for three years.  Lifeguards told WECT they plan to re-apply for the certification when it expires.
