Crab fest held in Wilmington to benefit adult day care center

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Dozens gathered for the Elderhaus Center's first ever crab fest Saturday.

The center charged $20 per person to eat as many crabs and drink as many beers as they could.  All of the proceeds benefited the Elderhaus Center, which is an adult day care center located near Greenfield lake park.

Lynda Pearce said many people who were originally from the north jumped at the opportunity for all-you-can-eat crabs.

"All the people from Maryland called and said, if you have steamed crab, you're the only game in town," said Pearce. "Those were the first people who were here. Evidentially, we don't steam crabs because we people boil them. We are trying some steamed crabs and seeing if we like those. We have a commercial steamer here because we have a commercial kitchen."

The Elderhaus Center plans to hold another crab fest this fall.
