WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Construction is underway in rebuilding a well-known Wilmington restaurant that burned down last year.
Valino's Restaurant and Martha's Karaoke Lounge on Carolina Beach Road burned down in an early morning fire in November 2008.
Investigators say electrical malfunction from a light fixture in the dining room sparked a blaze that destroyed the restaurant that had been open for 48 years.
The owners say they'll probably change the name of the new establishment, but will otherwise be about the same.
"It's a great feeling, because we were so bored for six months having nothing to do but worry about what we were going to do with this," said owner Donna Schreiner. "So it's good to see there's some progress going on now."
The restaurant is expected to open in August.
