SUPPLY, NC (WECT)- A mother and her five children lost their home early Saturday morning to a house fire.
According to firefighters, the blaze sparked on a bed in one of the children's bedrooms, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Even though only one of the two smoke detectors in the home worked at the time, everyone was able to safely escape.
"Probably the most important advice in this case, and any case, is always to make sure your smoke detectors work in your home so it alerts your family and gets everyone out of the house safely," said County Fire Marshal Scott Garner.
The mother and her children are currently staying with family members, and the Red Cross is assisting them with clothing and other needs.
