PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Nearly 100 students from Malpass Corner Elementary graduated Thursday morning from a gang resistant program.

The GREAT program, standing for Gang Resistant Education And Training, is a six week course designed to teach students to avoid peer pressure.  The course also educated students on the dangers of drugs and gangs.

A total of 1,100 Pender County fifth graders who took part in the program were given a certificate declaring they are ready to face everyday challenges youth sometimes face.

The program also offers a 12-week program for 7th graders.
