BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - It's officially hurricane season and Brunswick County is preparing for any upcoming storms.
Emergency and county officials hosted a hurricane training session for their inland areas.
Teams worked together to create response plans for a series of hurricane situations. The event focused on problems the inland areas are likely to encounter in the event of a hurricane like structural damage, flooding, and changes in evacuation routes.
They are trying to create a large network of responders, ready to jump into action to improve recovery time.
"This is where it starts at, so yes, we've seen a number of times where things that we've done in our training exercises and the tools that we use have actually been implemented out in the field," said Randy Thompson with Bwk. Co. Emergency Services.
Last week the county was selected to create the first disaster recovery plan for all of North Carolina.
