BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown has a new chief executive officer.

Charles Cameron Highsmith Jr. took over the position May 27.  He is a Pender County native and has more than 20 years of professional healthcare administration experience.

Highsmith will oversee the daily operations for a public, not-for-profit critical access hospital.  The hospital includes a 24-hour emergency department, a medical/surgical unit, and intensive care unit, and an up-to-date birthing center.

Bladen County Hospital is one of two critical access hospitals primarily serving rural communities in Southeastern North Carolina.
