PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Some people in Pender County are asking county commissioners to investigate whether Pender County Animal Control officials are doing their jobs.

Monday night, Animal Cruelty Investigator Lisa Hartman of Columbus County and East Coast Chapter Humane Society President Peter MacQueen went before commissioners to ask them to investigate the equine rescue and animal welfare in Pender County.

Some believe animal control didn't do enough to help ten malnourished horses in the Surf City area a few weeks ago.

"I just feel like if Animal Control did their job and support officer Lewis when the call was made originally on June 22nd the horses would not have had to be delayed from the 22nd to the 7th of May when they were seized," said Hartman.

Commissioners had a closed door meeting with the Pender County Sheriff to discuss the animal control issue after Monday night's meeting.
