Outreach effort in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Some Wilmington ministries reached out to the community Saturday.

Prayer and Bible Church of God, along with other churches teamed up to serve the Meares Street neighborhood with food and fun in an effort to rescue the neighborhood from drugs, gangs, and violence.

The Williams family and their helpers believe serving the community, in this case with hot dogs, cold drinks, and fun for kids, will lead people to ask for help in other areas of their lives.

"Some will come in and we'll continue to go to them personally in their homes after today and they'll know our faces and our character, said Reverand Edward Williams. "We're not after their money. We're not after their possessions. We're after making a positive impact for the whole spectrum of their lives and their families.

Pastor Williams said they hope to take the same kind of outreach to other Wilmington neighborhoods.
