Mother and teen killed in Pender Co. wreck

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A mother and teenager died Thursday night after a head-on collision.

The State Highway Patrol said 32-year-old Lisa Lynn Vanek and her 14-year-old daughter, Sonyeuh Olivera were pronounced dead on the scene.

According to troopers, Vanek and her two children were heading East on NC Highway 210 near the entrance of Moore's Creek Battlefield when they ran off the road to the right. Vanek then over corrected and crossed the center lane, hitting a small truck head on.

Vanek and her teenage daughter did not survive. Vanek's seven year old daughter, who was also in the car, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. At last check, she was in stable condition.

The driver of the truck, 56-year-old Gregory Averitt was treated and released from Pender Memorial Hospital.
