KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher opened a rare exhibit Friday, and with some help from the community the newest resident has a name.

More than 1,500 submissions were collected onsite and online to name the aquarium's new albino alligator.  Aquarium staff vote on their favorite name and Luna won.

The rare alligator moved into its new home in February from a farm in St. Augustine, Florida.

Built in-house by Aquarium staff, the albino alligator exhibit features a deck and viewing panel and a six foot tall, stainless steel "phantom" mesh barrier surrounds the exhibit.

The animal and its exhibit were paid for by private funds provided by the NC Aquarium Society.
