WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Miss USA has made her first trip back home since winning the title.

Wilmington native Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA in Las Vegas in April.

She'll arrive on the Henrietta and then spend several days making appearances around the area, including visiting schools, the Zimmer Cancer Center, and having a meeting with cancer researchers at PPD.

"I think it's so important for someone in her position who can make not only the citizens in New Hanover County and this community aware of breast and ovarian cancer which continues to attack so many Americans, but she's able from this area to go to other areas," said Paula Corbett who is part of the Kristen Dalton Homecoming Committee. "And we're so proud she'll be promoting that awareness of cancer."

Dalton is a Hoggard High School graduate and is a senior at East Carolina University, majoring in psychology and Spanish.

She was whisked away to New York City, where she has an apartment for a year, along with a two-year scholarship and salary.
