WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Vandals committed thousands of dollars worth of damage at a church construction site in Wilmington over the weekend.
Members of Macedonia Baptist Church are building a new facility off 30th Street.
Sunday, someone smashed windows and ripped out wires to several tractors and dump trucks at the site. The trucks belonged to Norris Construction Company which does have insurance.
"Whoever is responsible for this probably isn't aware that we're here to help the community, not harm the community," said Pastor Terry Henry. "So in a sense, they're hurting themselves because we are a great service to the community."
Pastor Henry says he has a meeting with Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous Tuesday.
The pastor says the vandalism happened between 10:00am and 1:00pm Sunday.
Despite the damage, the church is still on schedule to open in September of 2011.
