SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - A body was discovered inside a home in Southport Friday afternoon around 2:30.

Police say they arrived at the home on West 11th Street and found a window broken and a woman's body inside.  Officials are unsure at this time how long the victim was dead or the cause of death.

Neighbors say the victim was a middle-aged woman who grew up in the area with her family near by.

The Southport Police Department is heading up the investigation with help from the Brunswick Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say they will be at the home throughout the evening collecting evidence.  They are offering a reward of $2,000 for anyone with information leading to an arrest.

Officials are withholding the name of the victim until the next of kin is notified.
