WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The North Carolina Ports Authority is hosting an annual Maritime Day Merchant Marine wreath laying ceremony Wednesday morning.

The ceremony gives residents the chance to remember others who have passed away serving our country.

The Merchant Marines suffered the highest casualty rate of any branch of service during World War II.

Members of the Coast Guard will place a wreath in the Cape Fear River.
