Wilm. Police search for man accused of assaulting a citizen

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department is searching for a man who is accused of trying to steal two cases of beer and assaulting a citizen.

According to detectives, a citizen saw the man attempting to leave the store with two cases of beer without paying for them.  The citizen approached the man and told him to put the beer back.

The man returned the beer and left the store.

Minutes later, the man accused of trying to steal beer and three others, assaulted the citizen as he was leaving the store.  The citizen was punched in the face and knocked to the ground.

Witnesses say the four men fled the scene in an older model 1970's black Ford Pickup truck.

The man accused of attempting to steal beer is about 5'8" tall and was wearing a dark colored ball cap, dark colored jeans, and a white t-shirt at the time of the incident.
