(WECT) - A new study shows a type of herbal tea is more effective than green tea to help you lose weight and fight obesity.

According to the study published by the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, white tea increases your metabolism and prevents new fat cells from forming.

"You can lose up to one pound a week," said fitness expert Robert Vasquez.

Experts say if you drink four cups of white tea a day, and change nothing about your diet, you can lose between 4-8 pounds in a year.

The study found white tea is the most effective because its ingredients are active on human cells and it has a high concentration of antioxidants.

More than 32% of Americans are obese, and scientists believe a daily cup of white tea could bring that number down.

The tea can also give you radiant skin and fight off signs of aging in addition to building stronger bones and lowering bad cholesterol.
