WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Fish of all sizes were reeled in Friday morning during the 11th Annual Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman Fishing Tournament.
The tournament was open to anyone with any disability and was provided with rods, tackle, and bait.
Volunteers were on hand to help bait hooks for the more than 300 disabled participants.
The CFDST is put on annually by the Got Em On Live Bait fishing club and organizers say it is a great social event.
"A lot of special needs people don't have access to cars or cell phones, so this is like the social event of the year for a lot of them," said Dawson Freuler with CFDST. "They come out here to see people they haven't seen in a couple of years. They know they are going to get treated well and it is a lot of fun for every body."
Tracy Mintz from the Wilmington Wave group home won this year's tournament by catching a 1.65 pound Black Drum.
