WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - After a year of being closed for expansions and improvements, Maides Park re-opened to the public Friday.

The construction cost just over $1 million, funded largely by the 2006 parks bond.

The park features a new playground, basketball and tennis courts, and a walking trail.

The community building was expanded by 1,300 square feet and includes two new meeting rooms which can double as game rooms.

Officials are planning more upgrades: 2 new basketball shelters, a new backstop, new bleacher pads and accessibility projects for the handicapped.
