BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A new festival in Southport kicked off Tuesday and will run throughout the week.

Organizers say the Ibis Festival is the perfect event for people who want to learn about nature in our area.

There will be several workshops ranging from native plant and animal species, to nature photography, and even creative writing.

There will also be trips to Orton Plantation, Fort Fisher, and the Aquarium.

"The people will realize the unique nature's bounty that we have in the lower Cape Fear area," said organizer Sally Buchankn. "They will see things in a different way and appreciate them more."
