WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - May is National Melanoma Month, and for a fourth year, WECT teamed up with Atlantic Dermatology to offer free cancer screenings.
In the past, the screening has helped several people detect they have cases of melanoma, which is the most serious and deadly form of skin cancer.
Dr. Jonathan Crane of Atlantic Dermatology performed the screenings Friday in the Belk wing of Independence Mall.
"I really feel that the more we get the word out, no matter which dermatologist anyone goes to, just see your dermatologist anyone goes to, just see your dermatologist on a yearly basis," said Dr. Crane. "Look yourself over monthly and catch stuff early so that's it's not a big problem. I'd rather treat things before they're a big problem than after."
The doctors performed almost 90 screenings last year and caught one case of melanoma.
