No official handshake during CFCC's graduation

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Students graduating from Cape Fear Community college will not be allowed to shake the school's president's hand because of fears of the H1N1 virus.

CFCC spokesperson David Hardin said school officials were considering having the graduates use hand sanitizer before shaking the president's hand, but cutting the action out all together was a better option.

"I think better safe than sorry is always a good policy," said Hardin. "Certainly, the students will understand that. It will be an exciting time for them whether they get a handshake or not."

Signs posted on doors at the Schwartz Center indicate that no one should enter the building if they have flu-like symptoms.

The commencement ceremony for close to 1,000 students takes place at the Schwartz Center Friday night at 7:00.
