WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A man is back in custody after escaping from the back of a police car.

Wilmington Police arrested 21-year-old Kyle Horton for assaulting a female, possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say Horton began kicking the window of the police car as he was being transported to jail.  As an officer attempted to further secure Horton to prevent him from damaging the window, Horton was able to escape.

Police used infrared technology from their helicopter to locate Horton in a wooded area behind Snipes Academy.

Horton is being held at the New Hanover County jail on $206,000 secured bond.
