WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - When it comes to losing weight and getting in shape, it can be hard to stay on track and stay motivated.
When you think of a gym - generally you envision people running on treadmills, lifting weights, or working out with personal trainers.
Now, there is a new approach to the traditional workout.
"Crossfit is for anyone who is willing to put in the hard work," said Crossfit Coastal Owner and Coach Ezekiel Martinez.
Crossfit Coastal in Wilmington features high intensity training challenges. It is circuit training including kettlebell swings, pull ups, and sprints - as fast as you can, three times in a row.
All of the workouts are performed for a time or a score, so its easy to track your progress. Not only do you compete against yourself, but you also compete your peers.
Member Samantha Welty says that with rivalry comes constant encouragement.
"It's not like your average gym, I mean, you have all the motivation and support you could ever need," said Welty.
The workouts are short, but intense, so you don't have to spend hours of your day working out. You can usually see results in as quickly as two weeks.
The goal of this particular workout was for members to beat their own personal time they set 8 weeks ago.
