BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Town of Oak Island will officially open its new fire department this weekend.

Though firefighters have been using Station Number 3 for a couple of months already, the ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Sunday afternoon.

"It will be a lot faster for them to get to any kind of fire or emergencies on this side of the bridge, and they can help out with other fire stations in the area with a lot faster response times," said Kyle Thomas with the Town of Oak Island.

The two other fire stations in Brunswick County are located over the bridge on Oak Island.
