ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An Onslow County judge has lifted a gag order from a high profile case involving a Marine accused of murdering a fellow Marine in 2007.
The judge ruled the order did not meet constitutional standards and lifted it Monday.
The gag order was originally instated to ensure Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean's right to a fair trial.
The order would have prohibited prosecutors, law enforcement officials, and Laurean's defense attorney from releasing pertinent information to the media or public.
Laurean made his first court appearance in April, where a judge ruled he would be held without bond.
The Marine is facing charges of first degree murder, financial card transaction fraud, and obtaining property by false pretenses.
Laurean is scheduled to appear next in court on May 18th.
