WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - I don't really understand why so much has been made of President Obama's first 100 days. I mean no disrespect - but what's the big deal?
Now, I know historically this has been a reference point since Franklin Roosevelt was president. In his first one hundred days he passed a slew of bills - and ever since presidents have had to endure this unofficial report card.
But is it fair? These days Congress moves much slower than it did in FDR's time. And can you really give an accurate assessment in a mere one-hundred days?
Do you judge your spouse on the first 100 days of your marriage? I'm certainly glad my wife gave me more time, and if you judged your dog on that time table - you'd get caught up on housebreaking and totally overlook the years of companionship.
This President will be judged like every other - through the lenses of history. And a 100-day report card isn't doing any of us any good.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
