NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Administrators at UNCW are doing their best to deal with the latest budget cut plan from Gov. Beverly Perdue.

Tuesday Perdue said she wants to cut salaries for all state workers by a half percent.  She also wants them to take 10 furlough hours between June 1 and the end of the calendar year.

The governor said it will save about $65 million.

"Well, you know certainly they're going to have to make some modifications to payroll and that sort of thing," said Cindy Lawson, assistant to the chancellor.  "In addition to that, people will have to modify their schedules for jobs to accommodate those furloughs."

In return for their salary cuts, state employees will get 10 hours of flexible leave to use between June 1 and December 31 of this year.
