Pay By Phone now available for downtown parking meters

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - If you've ever been downtown Wilmington without quarters, you know it can sometimes be a burden to park.

Now if you don't have any change you can pick up your phone and make a payment for parking.

Monday, April 27, all on-street parking meters in downtown Wilmington began accepting payments by phone.

To use the service, customers call 1-888-380-7275 and key in the location number (posted on the meter) and the amount of parking time desired.

Once the credit card and license plate numbers are entered, the total amount (plus a 35-cent service charge), will be charged to the customer's credit card.

Customers can also elect to receive a text message reminder a few minutes before their meter time expires. Customers can then call back in and add more time, if desired, thus reducing the chance of a parking violation.

Working with Verrus Mobile Technologies, Inc., Park Wilmington's new service is designed to make it easier for customers to use on-street parking downtown.

"We're glad to give our customers the choice and convenience of using coins or credit cards for their short-term, on-street parking," said Parking Manager Betty Gurganus in a statement.
