April 22, 2009

  • 12:02 p.m. - First 911 call reporting a fire on Woodlawn Drive
  • 12:35 p.m. - Evacuation begins on Woodlawn Drive, International Drive, Environmental Parkway, and Serenity Place
  • 2:00 p.m. - Red Cross Opens Tilly Swamp Baptist Church
  • 2:02 p.m. - SCHP shuts down part of Hwy. 90
  • 2:40 p.m. - Horry County Fire/Rescue sets up Command Post at Station 43 (Lees Landing Fire Station)
  • 4:23 p.m. - Flames reported at wood line area behind Glenmore Subdivision off of Hwy. 90
  • 5:44 p.m. - Flames being reported at Hwy. 22 & Hwy. 31
  • 5:47 p.m. - SCDOT begins shutting down portion of Hwy. 31
  • 10:32 p.m. - Residents allowed back to their homes on Woodlawn Drive, International Drive, Environmental Parkway, and Serenity Place

April 23, 2009

  • 1:19 a.m. - Portion of Hwy. 22 shuts down
  • 1:24 a.m. - Fire jumps Hwy. 22, heading towards Barefoot Resort
  • 5:03 a.m. - Fire jumped Long Bay Rd. in Pelican Bay Subdivision
  • 5:24 a.m. - Horry County activates the Emergency Operations Center and the Joint Information Center.  County goes to OPCON 1
  • 7:07 a.m. - Tilly Swamp Baptist Church shelter closes
  • 9:02 a.m. - Horry County opens phone bank to assist with citizen calls
  • 9:29 a.m. - HC School District announces the closure of all NMB schools
  • 11:00 a.m. - National Guard starts water drops
  • 11:43 a.m. - Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce begins long-term sheltering coordination
  • 12:45 p.m. - Horry County Fire/Rescue moves Command Post to Solid Waste Authority
  • 1:29 p.m. - Ocean Bays Elementary, Middle, and the Academy are evacuated
  • 4:50 p.m. - Approximately 30 homes evacuated on Strawberry Lane and Cherry Circle in the Wampee section of Horry County.
  • 6:08 p.m. - ICW from US 501 to Little River Swing Bridge is closed to boat traffic
  • 6:14 p.m. - Additional shelter opens at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church on Hwy. 501
  • 8:31 p.m. - Evacuation Order lifted for Strawberry Lane and Cherry Circle in the Wampee section of Horry County

  • Responded and supported the Incident Command Post at Highway 90

April 23, 2009

  • Responded to North Myrtle Beach Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to assist with evacuation issues
  • Horry County Emergency Operations Center activated at 5:24 a.m.
    • 38 departments/agencies represented including local, state, federal, non-governmental agencies, faith-based
    • 124 representatives in EOC
    • Operating 24 hours
  • Instituted an Emergency Call Center with 10 call takers for citizen inquiries
    • In a 24-hour time period, answered 5254 calls; averaging 230 calls per hour
  • 3 Incident Management Teams

Animal Component

  • Picked up 10 horses and relocated to safe location
  • Evacuated a large animal facility where 39 horses were moved to another facility
  • 10 dogs being housed temporarily at the Horry County Animal Shelter that were injured or relocated for safety
  • 30 volunteers countywide assisting with temporary sheltering
  • Plenty of space for temporary boarding at the Horry County Animal Shelter for those homeowners needing assistance. Call 915-5170.
