BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Doctors at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport are on alert as smoke and ash from the South Carolina brush fires have floated into their community.

Brunswick County emergency workers say they have received more than 30 phone calls from concerned citizens.

As the wind direction changed, most of the smoke and ash had cleared from the area by Thursday afternoon.  However, firefighters expect the wind to change directions again - pushing heavy smoke and ash back into the Brunswick County area.

A burning ban has been issued for Brunswick County which restricts burning within 100 feet of structures in the county.
