Burning ban lifted for Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - As of 5:00 Friday evening, the burning ban has been lifted for Brunswick County.

The ban was initially put in place in an effort to reduce any additional smoke that could affect the health and well being of county residents after the wildfires in Horry County.

The National Weather Service has advised that the upper level winds will allow smoke dispersion to occur.

Fire Marshal Garner wants to remind citizens that only unprocessed yard debris may be legally burned.  Also, any outdoor burning that occurs more than 100 feet from a dwelling requires a burning permit.

Information on where to get a burning permit may be obtained by calling the Brunswick County Fire Marshal's Office at 253-4376 or the North Carolina Forestry Brunswick Office at 755-7772.
