NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County commissioners decided not to put a quarter cent sales tax increase on the November ballot.
The commissioners had considered the increase as a way of bringing millions of extra dollars in.
Some residents said they would have voted for the increase out of fear their property tax would go up instead.
"That's the lesser of the two evils," said resident Don Harris.
However, on Monday, commissioners voted not to raise the tax.
They said since state lawmakers haven't passed their budget, it's best to postpone a tax vote.
They may put the sales tax question on the may ballot.
