WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Linda Lavin has won a Tony and two Golden Globes, now she and her husband received an award for their community efforts.
The Wilmington Rotary Club presented the actress and her husband, Steve Bakunas, with a Community Recognition Award.
The award commemorates and recognize people who have done nice things for the community.
"How great that the rotary thought to acknowledge us for something we had no idea we would be recognized for," said Lavin. "What we want to do is recognize the need and recognize our own desired to make a difference. This is beyond anything we ever imagined."
Since moving to the area 15 years ago, the couple has promoted the arts and has inspired countless aspiring actors. They also founded the Red Barn Studio near downtown Wilmington.
The Rotary Club also presented the award to New Hanover County Fire Services and the Sheriff's Office, in addition to the Wilmington Fire and Police Departments.
The plaques were presented at the Coastline Convention Center Tuesday.
