My Turn, Your Turn: Your turn on city leader trips

By Gary McNair - bio|email

WILMINGOTN, NC (WECT) - We heard from a lot of people about our commentaries last week on the city and county's trips to Washington.

Some, like David, supported the Wilmington City Council members:

You cannot sit in your backyard, hoping that federal money will fall in your lap.

But for every one we got like that, there were at least a half a dozen others from people who were angry and upset.  Like Paulette:

This infuriates me!  City officials had no regard, no respect to the taxpayers.

Or Susie:

My husband and I were outraged. The wasted $19,000 could have kept a firehouse open or paid part of a salary for much needed police.

Or Richard:

The city council reeks with the same arrogance that the big three CEO clowns demonstrated when they traveled on their private jets requesting funds.

And finally Stan who asked a simple question:

Does it speak to the mental capacity of our city council that three of them cannot handle the information gathering and then share it with the others?

I don't know about you - but I think it's time to take what we've learned about this and move on.  Maybe this exchange of opinions will help us all make better decisions in the future.

That's your turn on traveling to Washington.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at
