WILMNGTON, NC (WECT) - Independence Blvd. in Wilmington will soon be wider.
Over the next few months, the section of Independence between Shipyard Blvd. and Carolina Beach Road will be expanded into four lanes.
City council members voted on Tuesday night to go ahead with the project.
The expansion is expected to cost over $4 million. Half of the money will come from the 2006 transportation bond, and the other will come from general funds and state money.
Council members say they're widening the road with the future in mind.
