WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - After a 30-day trial, city officials have decided to remove traffic lights a some intersections in downtown Wilmington.

The lights on North Front Street at Princess and Chestnut Streets will be taken out of service and replaced by all-way stop signs.

According to city officials, by removing the lights people drive through the intersection more slowly, making the road more pedestrian friendly.

The change is part of the North Front Street Streetscape project, which was developed to improve underground utilities, streets, lights, landscaping and sidewalk features.
