COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Columbus County has its first full time planner since 2007.

Jim Dossett will take over as the county's planner Monday, April 20.  County officials said it was time to hire a full time planner to assist the planning board, in order to move the county forward.

Dossett has planning experience and was the acting director of community development in southwest Florida.

"It's a great opportunity," said Dossett.  "The economy is slow right now, new growth is slow and that's the time to start planning and thinking ahead what you want to do.  So, we're excited about this opportunity."

Dossett said the first thing on his agenda is to focus on a subdivision ordinance and a manufactured home ordinance.
