WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Saturday the 4th annual Officer Down Ride took place in Wilmington.  About 300 motorcyclists traveled from Wilmington through several cities to Shallotte. The event is organized by local law enforcement, fire officials, and motorcyclists.

Organizers of the event say the purpose of the ride is to help raise awareness for police officers and firefighters who have been hurt or killed in the line of duty.

The money raised from the event goes into a fund that serves emergency workers in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties.
