WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Many people gathered in front of Wilmington's Federal Court House Tuesday evening to take part in a "Tea Party," before the city council meeting.
Residents used the opportunity as a way to peacefully protest the annexation of Monkey Junction.
The demonstration coincided with Wilmington City Council's Monkey Junction annexation hearing.
After the protest, demonstrators walked from Water Street to City Hall to bring attention to the city government and what they call, "the forced annexation pattern across southeastern North Carolina."
And just like tea parties that have happened since the 1700s, participants held signs and voiced their opinions about what they say is taxation without representation. Protestors even dumped tea into the river.
