Brunswick Plant sirens to be tested Wednesday morning

Posted by Debra Worley - email

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - No need to panic if you hear sirens Wednesday morning - the sounding is only a test.

As part of Progress Energy's comprehensive emergency planning program, sirens near the Brunswick Nuclear Plant will go off April 8 around 10:00 AM.

During the test, the sirens will be sounded for short periods of time lasting approximately 10 seconds.

The sirens are tested quarterly to ensure the system is in good working order.

Because the April 8 siren activation is a test, local television and radio stations will not interrupt their regular programming to broadcast Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages.

For more information regarding safety and emergency preparedness at the Brunswick Plant, visit the company's web page at www.progress-energy.com or call the Brunswick Plant Visitors Center at 910-457-2900.
