SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - Southport officially has a new hotel that will provide the area with around two dozen jobs.

The Windgate by Wyndham is located in front of a new shopping plaza that is under construction and features 84 rooms.

According to town officials, before the hotel was built most tourist had to make day trips, because there aren't many hotels in the area.

"It will not only cater to tourists and provide rooms for them. But will also help the local people," said Hotel Sales Director Kimberly Hash. "It will provide conference rooms for them to stay here and help save on cost for them."

The hotel is located in front of a new shopping plaza which will include a new senior center and several restaurants.
