WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - We hear so much bad economic news on a regular bases that when something good happens I think we ought to take a moment to enjoy it and let it soak in.
Last week something very good floated into Wilmington by way of this cargo ship. It belongs to a Dutch company called ICL. For years, the company had been shipping consumer goods from Europe to Richmond, Virginia, but last week they decided to change course and come here.
This is the second major cargo company to choose Wilmington over some other east coast city. A few weeks ago, Maersk - the world's largest container shipping company also announced it would be doing business here.
When you really think about it, more than goods are being loaded & unloaded at the port. You can also look at it as a "boat loads" of money for our region.
Now - I know if you're struggling right now, it may be too soon for any of this to have a direct impact on you. But good news for the Port of Wilmington will eventually be good news for all of us.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
