WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Members of a Wilmington health club found a sign on the door saying their workouts had been canceled - for good.

Tuesday, the Port City Health Club had a sign on the door saying the business is closing.  In addition to that sign, Progress Energy posted a warning saying the bills were overdue and service was ending.

Members said there was no hot water Monday, but there was no other indication that the owner, Charles Nickels, was in financial trouble.

Some people had just renewed their contracts and are now looking to get their money back.

"We're frustrated," said John Meshaw.  "We hope we'll hear some better news as of tomorrow but attorney's have posted a sign on the door and so since attorney's are involved we're not very optimistic"

ASF International is only Port City Health Club's payment processor and say they have already taken action regarding member's future payments

According to ASF's customer relations manager, ASF International is not in any position to refund those member's that prepaid for their memberships.  Those transactions occurred at the club and ASF International is not in receipt of those funds.

The Wilmington Family YMCA will offer a free 60 day trial membership for any Port City Health Club member.

Members are asked to bring their Port City Health Club ID card and we will exchange it for a YMCA membership card.

The Wilmington Family YMCA does not offer contracts to its members and a membership is held on a month to month basis.

Port City Health Club members will be under no obligation by taking advantage of this offer.
