New nature preserve for CFCC Students in New Hanover County

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Cape Fear Community College has a new nature preserve that will be used by students.

The preserve is located along River Road in New Hanover County. The land was donated to the college by Nathan Sanders. The preserve is named after his wife, Judia.

The preserve is made up of 350 acres, and included wildlife such as wildcats, various birds and even alligators. CFCC officials call the land a new classroom for students.

"It's perfect for our marine tech program who will access it by water," said David Hardin of CFCC. "Also, some of our biology students and landscape and gardening students will be able to access it through the land to see the wide variety of wildlife and plant like this is indigenous to the area."

Officials say there are no plans to build any trails or piers on the land.
