Carolina Canines event takes place in Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The annual Carolina Canines event, "Walk for Those Who Can't" took place Saturday in Wrightsville Beach.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners walked the Wrightsville Beach loop.  All the proceeds go towards Carolina canines.

The organization provides free, trained, service dogs for those who may need them. Several WECT personalities walked with their dogs. Rick Hairston, the director of Carolina canines calls today's turnout, phenomenal.

"We've had a great turnout," said Rick Hairston of Carolina Canines.  "We had close to 360 walkers and probably 200 dogs. Anywhere from little yorkies, all the way up to huge great danes and anything and everything in between. It's just been a great day."

Hairston says this years event raised close to $15,000.
